About Us

Volner Sawmill, Inc. located in Parsons, Tennessee produces hardwood lumber, cants, wood chips, bark, and dust which are shipped throughout the Southeast. We have been in business since 1965. We have 10 full-time employees who are committed to manufacturing a quality product.

The hardwood lumber and ties that we produce are second to none; we realize the value of an honest day’s work and we take our craft seriously.

We also have two full time professional foresters on staff with more than 40 years combined experience managing land and hardwood timber. We have a great team and we take pride in what we are able to accomplish.

The Mill and Our Operations

The wood products industry is still very much alive in Tennessee and we feel fortunate that Volner Sawmill can be a part of it.

Much of what we produce stays in Tennessee, while some is shipped to Arkansas, Alabama, Kentucky, and other bordering states. Ultimately our lumber ends up in a variety of goods around the world; items such as furniture, flooring, cabinets, and mouldings to name a few.

Our focus is to consistently manufacture the finest materials for our customers so that they will be satisfied no matter what their end product may be.

In January 2022 we replaced our old circle mill with a 62” Cleereman Lumber Pro Double Cut Band Mill, Cleereman Controls, and a Cleereman Linear Carriage. This new equipment will provide us with increased efficiency while helping us consistently manufacture the finest materials for our customers. We are now able to saw and edge lengths from 8’ to 18’.

Sustainability

At Volner Sawmill, Inc. we are blessed to be surrounded by some of the finest hardwoods in the world. Trees are America’s most renewable resource and we strive to manage and preserve this resource responsibly.

We are beginning to establish our own land and hardwood timber base and are actively pursuing the purchase of company timberlands and woodlands. We prefer to purchase our own stumpage from landowners which allows us to oversee how and when the timber is harvested. If you are looking to sell your trees or sell your land, please contact us.

We elect to only use certified loggers in our harvest operations to ensure the integrity of each job and to safeguard the land. We believe it is important to make the right choices when it comes to what we do because the end result is an improved natural habitat and a healthy forest for the future.

History of the Mill

Volner Sawmill was moved to the town of Parsons, TN from Clarksburg, TN in April 1965. The mill was operated as R.L. Volner and Sons Sawmill up until October 2011 when the mill was shut down by the Volner family.

In February 2012 the lumber mill was opened under new ownership and with a new name. Volner Sawmill suffered the lost of their main office building to a fire in February of 2014.

Volner Sawmill moved into their newly rebuilt office in January of 2015 where they are currently residing.

We Buy Timberland and Hardwood Timber

Land Management Services from a Registered Forester

Our Registered Forester, Stephen Dorris, graduated from Mississippi State University (MSU) in 1989 with a BS in Forest Management. He is a member of the Society of American Foresters and Tennessee Forestry Association. He is also a Master Logger in the state of Tennessee. Contact us for more information.

Dorris’ experience includes: land and timber management, timber appraisal, land acquisition, wildlife management, wildlife food plot establishment, and more.

We offer timberland management services in western Tennessee.

Sell Your Land

We buy land in western Tennessee and west Kentucky. We are looking for high quality soils with well stocked stands of timber. Our long term ownership objective is to manage for high quality hardwood saw timber with wildlife management and recreation as our secondary objectives.
